The Beige and Blue Spider-Style Hammock, entirely handmade, is the result of ancestral techniques passed down through generations. This luxury handmade hammock is crafted using ancestral techniques passed down through generations, a process that takes over two months to complete. Each chinchorro is uniquely woven by elder Wayuu women, guardians of this ancient art form.

The "spider" style chinchorro is a masterpiece of Wayuu craftsmanship, created by a small group of skilled women who have preserved this ancestral knowledge. Its unique design, known for its intricate weaving, takes its name from Waleker, the legendary spider in Wayuu mythology. The "spider" style design, inspired by Waleker, the mythical spider from Wayuu folklore, symbolizes the deep connection between the community, their traditions, and nature. Wayuu weaving is more than craftsmanship—it is an expression of their worldview and cultural heritage.

Combining functionality, comfort, and cultural beauty, this oversized Wayuu hammock is perfect for summer days or relaxing on a terrace, offering a living tribute to the sacred legacy of the Wayuu people.

Cultural Origin

For the Wayuú people, weaving is much more than a cultural practice or ancestral heritage; it is a way of conceiving and expressing life as they feel and imagine it. This art, deeply reflective and filled with joy, allows them to interpret the spirit that guides their actions and thoughts through their intricate woven creations.

Kanas represents the pinnacle of Wayuú weaving, a millennia-old tradition believed to have originated in the Alta Guajira. This art involves creating stylized geometric patterns that symbolize elements of the natural environment surrounding the Wayuú's daily lives. The more complex the designs, the greater the value of the piece. Woven on a forked loom, each kanas has its own name and meaning, reflecting the profound symbolism embedded in their culture.

Among the most representative textiles of the Wayuú culture are the chinchorro and the hammock. While both serve similar functions, they differ significantly in their textile characteristics: the chinchorro is elastic and loosely woven, whereas the hammock is heavier, compact, and features a tightly woven design. Both exemplify the richness and diversity of Wayuú artistry—a living tradition that connects their community with their history, environment, and spirituality.
